65 Roses
Red roses, 65 of them, are a symbol of hope for people touched by Cystic Fibrosis.
65 Roses has been the theme for Cystic Fibrosis after a folklore story of a little boy who could not pronounce his condition, Cystic Fibrosis, and instead called it '65 Roses'.
Cystic Fibrosis is the most common life-threatening inherited disease in Australia, affecting 1 in 2500 children. Cystic Fibrosis Victoria Former CEO, Helen McNeil, explains that 'through a faulty gene that allows too much salt and not enough water into the cells, people with Cystic Fibrosis experience a build-up of mucus. This eventually leads to irreparable lung damage and chronic
infection that inevitably results in the need for lung transplantation or possibly death'.
The life expectancy of a child born with Cystic Fibrosis today is 37 years.
May is 65 Roses Month in Australia - creating awareness and raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis research. As this cause is very close to our hearts here at Lille Ven, we like to support it where and when we can.
